Mary's Dream

This was something I wanted to share with you. I found it a great reminder of what this season should be about.

I had a dream, Joseph. I don't understand it, not really, but I think it was about a birthday celebration for our Son. I think that was what it was all about. The people had been preparing for it for about six weeks. They had decorated the house and bought new clothes. They'd gone shopping many times and bought elaborate gifts. It was peculiar, though, because the presents weren't for our Son. They wrapped them in beautiful paper and tied them with lovely bows and stacked them under a tree. Yes, a tree, Joseph, right in their house. They'd decorate the tree also. The branches were full of glowing balls and sparkling ornaments. There was a figure on top of the tree. It looked like an angel might look. Oh, it was beautiful. Everyone was laughing and happy. They were all excited about the gifts. They gave the gifts to each other, Joseph, not to our Son. I don't think they even knew Him. They never mentioned His name. Doesn't it seem odd for people to go to all that trouble to celebrate someone's birthday if they don't know Him. I had the strangest feeling that if our Son had gone to this celebration, He would have been intruding. Everything was so beautiful, Joseph, and everyone so full of cheer, but it made me want to cry. How sad for Jesus not to be wanted at His own birthday celebration. I'm glad it was only a dream. How terrible, Joseph, if it had been real.

45 Things Life Taught Me

This was posted on one of my Yahoo groups and I thought I would share with everyone.

Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It
is the most-requested column I've ever written.

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone...

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and
parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first pay cheque.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey
is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never
blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up
to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an
answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't
save it for a special occasion, today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow..

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will
this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or
didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd
grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come.

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

Family Trip

These are just a few pictures from our family trip to New York State. My parents live there so we flew up for almost 2 weeks. It was Thomas's first flight and he did very well. And, it was James's first trip to NY and he enjoyed it. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage right on the lake. It was so beautiful this time of the year because the leaves were changing. We did some sightseeing which is where some of these pictures are from. We went to Taughannock Falls, Niagara Falls, Palmyra, and farther east where my uncle and cousins live. Overall, we had a great time, and a restful time. I also got to see some high school friends I haven't seen in about 15 years. We used to hang out together. We got together one night and had pizza and just hung out and caught up with life. Then I also got to see college friends who are married to each other and all 9 of their kids. Have not seen them in about 13 years. Enjoyed catching up with them too.

On another note, as my high school friends and I were talking, we realized we have not had a reunion in like forever. A friend and I planned the 10 year one and people seemed to enjoy it. Well, we are going to plan the 30th one, too. It will be in 2013 which will give us plenty of time to find everyone and organize something nice. I am looking forward to this.

Just a quick note

This card is a faux metal card. I was not sure if I ever posted this one. This is one of my favorite techniques. I just used 4 layers of embossong powder, heating it in between. After the last layer, while the embossong powder is still hot, you just stamp your stamp in there. You do not have to ink it.

Another fun technique and I don't have a picture is to make a faux leather. You just buy a foam sheet whatever color you want. Pick out your stamp and ink it up so it is ready to use. Heat your foam with your heat gun then stamp the image. Basically it looks like it is set in the foam....almost like a brand....cool technique.

Okay, now for some info from the home front. Life for me has been very trying or maybe I should say interesting. A little over a week ago, went to the doctor because I twisted my ankle....no broken bones or fractures. I messed up tendons and ligaments. I had to have a cast that I could not get wet and a walking boot. But since we caught it early, I was out of all that in a little over a week. Last week went back to the hand doctor for my follow-up visit since surgery at the end of April. I have no more numbness and pain in my fingers but I am still having pain in my wrist especially when I move my wrist. He x-rayed my wrist and found a problem. My ulna bone is a little shorter than it should be and instead of being smooth on top, it is jagged. So, I guess every time I move my wrist, I am "stabbing" myself. So, I am in a removable cast(removed only for showers) for 2 weeks....no lifting either. So, I am at work but I can't change diapers and lift the babies. Then when I go back, we will see from there. He talked about possible surgery which I won't be able to do until Nov. or Dec.

Thomas starts school on Monday. I need to finish laundry and get his bag packed for tomorrow. He hs been spending most of the summer with grandma....he would go there Tues.-Fri. then home on weekends. Life will now be back to normal.

James has been working alot of overtime because they are short-handed. That extra money will come in handy come vacation time.

Well, I better go work on the room. I am making progress but am sort of at a standstill until we have the bigger storage and can move alot of this big stuff out of here.

Time for an update

Today I am going to work on my ATC's for an exchange. I only have to do 4 of them. Hopefully, I will remember to get pictures of them so I can post here.

Dinner is already in the crock-pot. We are having spaghetti so all we will ahve to cook is the spaghetti and garlic bread. I put the sauce in the crock-pot this morning with sausage and it will cook all day. Even though it is jarred sauce from the store, I am finding that I like it much better done in the crock-pot and I addd a few spices and just let it cook all day on low. Love the taste so much better. And, the smell in the house is awesome. Love my crock-pots.

I just got news yesterday that we will have someone moving in Sept. 1. My mother in law is moving back in with us. We made this decision last night because of where she is living now is not a good situation. So this month, I will need to get busy and clean out the spare room(master bedroom) so we can move in there and give her the other bedroom. I was in the process of setting up the extra room as a craft room and other room so now it will be a Master bedroom/craft room. We also are going to get a bigger storage shed and put some stuff in there that we don't need right now. So, for the next month, I will be BUSY!!! And James, too because he will need to help me clean this place up.

Two more weeks and Thomas will be back at school. Boy, the summer sure went by fast. Before I know it, it will be Christmas!!!! LOL.

October 1-13, we will be flying to NY to visit my family. I am really looking forward to the trip and showing my hubby and son where I grew up and the beauty of NY State....and that it is more than New York City!!!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Thinking of You card

Here is the card I did for the exchange. This is my prototype one and is not perfect so I keep it as a sample. Basically, what I did was stamp the image on vellum then turned it over and colored with markers from the backside. Then attached it to the card by using the corner punch. Such an easy technique with nice results.

Enjoy!

(Oops...just noticed that you will see the writing backwards and it is small. To see it bigger, just click on image. Sorry about that!)

My weekend

This weekend has been very interesting...I guess you can say that! LOL Usually on Saturdays, we try to do something with Thomas and as a family. Let me first explain that my husband likes to get in the car and just drive....sometimes for 2-3 hours!! It is a good thing we have a Garmin because it helps when he is "not sure" where he is at. So back to yesterday. We did a few things then around 1:30 headed out to lunch at Zaxby's(I love their salads) then went to get gas at Sam's. A mishap there: I went to step over gas line that was in the car's gas tank so I could get back in the car while James continued to get gas. My one leg went over, next one did not and I sort of twisted my ankle and almost fell to the ground. It is now swollen and painful....not just in the ankle but also lower leg. I will give it a few days and see what happens.

Then we start on our "road trip" and drove for 2 hours. We went to Tuskegee National Forest and drove around. That actually was nice. Didn't see any wildlife, though. And, we drove on some other roads then used the Garmin to find our way home. That was when the funs tarted: Garmin took us on these narrow, dirt roads and gravel roads and little bridges where you had to stay in ruts to go over....just to get to a main road...LOL. And went from dirt road to paved road to gravel road to dirt road, etc. etc. It actually was neat to see these type of roads still exist!!

Today, I am just taking it easy and trying to stay off the foot as it is sore. I am going to finish off my Thinking of You cards for an exchange and then work on some ATC's for an exchange. Hopefully, I will remember to post some pictures of all this.

Everyone have a great day and thanks for reading my blog.

New York, Here We Come!!!

Our flights have been confirmed for our trip to NY. We are going Oct. 1-13. We will be in the Finger Lakes area where my parents live. I am so excited. And, this will be James and Thomas's first trip up there. Called the airlines today to arrange for some special needs for Thomas. Our best option was to ask for a wheelchair. We will see how that works out. Now to schedule all the sightseeing, visiting family and friends I haven't seen in a while. Luckily, I will have 1 day off when I come back to rest from my vacation!!! LOL

Another update

Today I got a phone call at work from James. For those who don't know, about 2 weeks ago, my son was in Phenix City at his grandma's when she called to say he was bleeding from his mouth and it was a dark color....almost black. So, we headed up there and met them at the ER. The doctor looked in his mouth and couldn't see anything and sent us off. This concerned us because it was not red like normal blood would be. We decided if it happened again, we would take him to his doctor. Well, that was today....I ended up having to leave work early and James and I went to Phenix City and picked him up. We then brought him to Opelika to his doctor. His doctor is concerned too. But, since it has only happened twice, he wants to see if there is a 3rd episode. So, if it happens again, we are to either take him right there or take a picture so the dr. can look at it. From there, he will send Thomas to a specialist and then we will go from there.

I will keep you all posted.

Okay, okay I got the point!!!

LOL....several people have been saying "you need to update your blog"!!! So, I am here to do that. I can't promise I will be a regular poster but I will try.

At the end of April, I had surgery on my hand. They had to cut in 4 places: carpal tunnel, sheath release and 2 lumps removed to be tested. My hand/arm looks like a road map!!!! I was out of work for 3 weeks. I went to the doctor today and the wrist area is still swollen and hurting. I go back in 1 month. If it is not better, there is a possibility that he may have to go back in and do a sheath release in that area, too. I will keep you posted on that. Praying that it heals so we don't have to do that. Oh, and the lumps tested negative for anything.

For Mother's Day, I got a great gift: a new car...well, new to me. A 2008 Ford Focus with 13,000 miles....love it!!!! James also got his Father's Day giftts early: a 357 magnum revolver, a shotgun, a laptop, a gun case and the Ronco knife set with block storage. But, I think my gift ws the best!!! LOL

Thomas received the most wonderful gift at the end of May: a cross-stitched quilt. An organization has volunteers that stitch the cross-stitch squares for these quilts and then quilters finish them. His theme was horses which he loves. The picture should be above. It is a beautiful quilt made with a lot of love.

Wednesday night, James and I came home to an awful sight. My cat was sitting in the middle of the dining room floor and laying beside her was a small, dead mouse. I have never had that happen since living here. It must have gotten in the house either when the back door or front door was opened. Yuck!!! I am surprised she got the mouse....this would be her first one. I knew I had a great bug catcher but now I know I have a good mouser, too.

This weekend I have a 4 day weekend. I took 2 days off to have a mini vacation. I am looking forward to family time and rest.

In October, we are heading to New York for 2 weeks. We are flying. It will be Thomas's first flight and James's 2nd one. I am looking forward to taking them up there and show them around and do the "tourist" stuff.

Well, I am back to finish my blog. I enjoyed my Friday off and have tomorrow off, too. I had so many expectations of what I wanted to get done this weekend but I guess God had other plans and wanted me to rest a little. In the middle of the night(Friday), I ended up getting really sick. I had some kind of stomach bug. Saturday, off and on, I spent in bed sleeping. Today, I am doing much better but hubby is not feeling well. We were going to head to Lake Martin but don't know if we will now.

Right now, I am working on my greeting cards for a swap I am in. I have to do 17 cards. I was all set with my idea but then could not find the stamp I wanted to use so I had to substitute. I think the stamp I chose will work.

After I finish the greeting cards, I need to work on some ATC cards for a swap.

Having one of my favorite dinners tonight: Baked Tilapia, steamed yellow squash with onions and probably some buttered rice. I was thinking of baking the fish with cracker crumbs on it but I don't think I will. I think I will just season it. My favorite fish are tilapia and orange roughy.

Well, I better get this published so you have something to read. When my cards and ATC's are done then I hopefully will remember to get pictures of them and post them.

Have a good day, everyone!

Surgery went well

Sorry it has been so long since I posted. Quickly, my surgery went well. I ended up being out for 3 weeks. I am still dealing with pain in my wrist and my arm being swollen. I will update more later when I have more time.

Happy Easter one an all!!

I hope everyone is having a good day! We got up early to go to a sunrise service at a friend's church, and then stayed for breakfast. It was nice. I think next week, we are going to go and try out the church. We are looking for a church at this point. My husband has been working weekends 3rd shift for about a year now so we haven't been going to church. Right now he has weekends off so this is nice.

April 24, I am having surgery on my right wrist for carpal tunnel. I will be off work for 2 weeks to recuperate then light duty for awhile. I won't be able to lift the kids for awhile I have been told. Actually, I am looking forward to a 2 week "vacation".

I have been busy working on several card and ATC exchanges so I can have them done by April 24. Yesterday, I got ALOT done at my friend's house and that idea has become a reality. When they are finished, I will scan them on here.

I hope all has a good and wonderful Easter.

Love you all!!

Another picture

These are some new family pictures. One is of Missy, our new dog. We got her in the summer from a family member. She is quite a ham and thinks she is the princess of the house. But our cat lets her know she's not. After a rough first week or two between her and our other dog, they are now buddies. We see them laying together, kissing each other and playing.

The other picture is a recent snowfall about 2-3 weeks ago...a rare thing in the south. James and I took Thomas out there to experience. Needless to say, he was not too thrilled. Thomas will be 15 in May. Can you believe it!!! And look how tall he is!!

Promised Pictures

This picture is a card I made a couple months ago using an oriental stamp I had. What you can't tell by the picture is that the piece under the stamped image is mirror cardstock. This is becoming one of my favorite stamps at the moment. My mom got me this stamp along with about 15 others. She went into her local craft store and they had a bin of stamps for $2.00. Most of thes tamps in the bin were retail $10-$15. What a bargain she got and I added alot of stamps to my collection as did she.

Update

Ok....Finally I find the time to update! As you may have noticed, I changed the colors and style on my blog. I thought it was a time for a change....this is lighter and Spring like.

In october, we went from 3 animals to 4. We added a cat which we adopted from our vet. Her name is Freckles and she came with quite a past. She came from a home with 31 other cats. Yes, you read right! Her owner anonymously left all the cats at different vet offices with a note that said "I am dying of cancer and do not have time to find homes for my babies". How sad! She left all their health info and they were well taken care of. I read the article in the paper and we decided to go take a look and came home with her. Our other cat did not like her at all. In February, Freckles got out and we have not seen her since. She was never happy here and was always crying. I feel sad but she is such a friendly, loving cat that I think she will be taken in by a lovely family. I pray that God leads her to the house/family that is best for her. We looked for her and did what we could.

In November, Spikee, my other cat, got out. She is strictly an indoor cat with no front claws. I had gotten her before I met my husband so she is special to me. We searched for her. 3 weeks later, she came home. She was dehydrated, very skinny, a fever and an open wound with infection. We went to the vets and after a week, improved greatly. She is now back to normal.

Today, we watched snow fall in Alabama and accumulated about 5 inches. We took Thomas out in it and I got some pictures which I will put on here once I get the photo CD loaded on my computer. I am not a big fan of snow but I wanted to get pictures of Thomas in it. I did get some nice pictures.

Life for me has been busy. We just celebrated our 5th anniversary. Man, where has the time gone? Thomas will be 15 in May and he is about an inch taller than me. I am trying to organize the 3rd bedroom as a craft/office/spare room. Some days I am really motivated and other days I am not. It has been a SLOW process. I think I could get so much more crafting done if my stuff was more organized.

I started going to a Women's Bible Study at a local church. I do not go to the church. My assistant does. I thought I would try the Bible Study and really enjoy it. We finished up one study and are starting a new one now. The new one looks like it is going to be really good. I take Thomas and he stays in the nursery part and seems to like it. I am learning so much. I have asked James to get me a new Bible for my birthday because mine is falling completely apart. Even though I love it and have so much written in it because I have had it for over 20 years, I think it is time for a change. But, I am going to get the same Bible but a leather cover instead of hard cover. I may get it in the next couple weeks even though my birthday is at the end of the month.

For our anniversary, my mom made us a beautiful scrapbooked album which will be an ongoing process as more pictures will be added. I have never done my photo album. I just stuck some pictures in an album just to protect them. I have all the pictures on CD and loaded them on the computer. But, I love the album she made and have been showing it to everyone.

Not much else to report. Hopefully, I will get some pictures on here soon. Thank you for staying with me and this blog.

HALLELUJAH!!!! I am back

You read right....my computer is working again!! It went down about 2 months ago and I needed my recovery CD. I have moved 2 times since purchasing the computer so I had no idea where it was. My husband and I searched boxes. I even contacted Gateway about purchasing a new one. That was a nightmare....there customer service is awful!!!!! But it is partly my fault for misplacing the Cd. Today, I felt like I was soooo close to it and guess what? I was right!!! So now I am trying to catch up on facebook and groups. I was going to the library but they won't let you go to social sites.

There is so much to tell everyone so I will update more this weekend when I have the time to sit down and just write.
